Frequently asked
Most asked.
I How does the referral system work?
Each active member can refer up to two new applicants per calendar year. The referrer's email is required on the application. We confirm with the referrer separately before reviewing. Referrers are not asked to vouch publicly — they are asked privately whether they'd be in the same dinner as you.
II What's the seniority bar?
Eight or more years in product. Most members are Directors, VPs, Senior Directors, or Staff PMs. We say no to senior PMs at the 5-7 year mark not because they're not strong — most of the time they are — but because the conversations are different. Earlier-career members would not get the conversations they paid for.
III Can I attend a dinner before joining?
No. Programming is members-only. The closest visitors get is the public journal, which surfaces summaries (not transcripts) of selected past sessions.
IV How private is the directory?
Every member controls visibility per-field. Job title is opt-in. Company is opt-in. Email is never visible to other members — internal messages route through the platform. The directory is browseable only by other active members.
V What happens to my data if I leave?
On membership cancellation: your directory listing is removed within 24 hours. Your past event RSVPs and library reads are kept anonymized for our own analytics; if you want them deleted, email the founders. Your name does not appear on any past transcripts (we redact names by default).
VI Why don't you sponsor or partner?
The platform is funded by member dues. Sponsorship would change the conversations, and the conversations are the product. We've turned down every sponsorship offer.
VII Why is it $35/month?
It's what we charge ourselves. Membership pays for the platform, the venue costs of dinners, the production of recorded events, and our two-person ops team. Anything else would compromise the math (more sponsors, fewer members, more programming) or the discipline (we will not become a 200-person staff org).
VIII What's the AI archive assistant?
A chat scoped to the {SOCIETY.archiveEvents}-event archive. Members ask questions like "what have members said about declining a promotion" and the assistant returns answers grounded in actual transcript text, citing the specific event. It refuses general LLM behavior — it will not write essays for you, will not summarize content not in our archive, will not pretend to be a member.
